POSI-STOP BLOCK LIMIT CONTROL SYSTEM

OPTIONS

In addition to the basic floor and crown protection provided by the standard Posi-Stop, several optional features can be included in the system. These requirements were identified by the end user and were developed by PTS to respond to their requests.

1. Intermediate zone protection

An intermediate zone can be selected by the operator to prevent the blocks from moving within this space in the derrick under specific conditions. This is of particular importance for Top Drive rigs, as it will prevent the top drive from hitting the pipe rack platform when in extended mode.

2. Speed Control

For applications where the upper limit is close to the crown, a speed control variable can be incorporated into the Posi-Stop to prevent the block from over running the upper limit under certain load and speed conditions. This application was requested for Service Rig operation because of limited clearance between the block and crown when pulling rods.

3. Emergency Shut Down

An emergency shut down switch is available to allow for remote activation of the solenoid. In the event the brake handle pivot pin breaks or drops out, this feature will allow the operator to stop the blocks from falling. The emergency shut down switch can be provided in either single or multiple locations.

4. Auxiliary control output

Custom control outputs can be provided for specific applications. For example, if the operator would like to have the throttle control air dumped at a specific block position, this control signal output can be provided independent of the floor and crown protection signal. Another application would stop the block movement if an obstacle such as an “Iron Roughneck” were in the travel path.

5. Mast overload protection

An additional display and control module can be incorporated into the Posi-Stop system to set a load limit that will prevent the operator from exceeding the load capacity of the derrick or the drill line.

6. Pre-selected block position and speed

A separate output from the Posi-Stop can be used to 'chatter' brake calipers on disk brake systems to slow the block and maintain a set travel speed at pre-selected block position and speed.

7. Data Acquisition

A RS232 serial connection interface can be provided that will allow the operator to receive and store all of the Posi-Stop operating parameters in real time on a PC or transmit to a remote base location. A data storage module is also available to allow all parameters to be stored within the display / control console. This data can then be downloaded to a data file at a later date. All data is date and time stamped to provide a record of all activities related to the Posi-Stop operation.

Contact us if you have an application that you would like to discuss. We would be happy to provide a system that will meet your requirements.
